Men with Peyronie’s Disease have a curved penis. This condition can make it difficult or impossible for men with Peyronie’s disease to engage in normal sexual relations.
The curve of the penis typical of Peyronie’s disease is caused by fibrous scar tissues that form below the surface of the penis.
Up until recently the only way to reverse the curve of Peyronie’s disease was through painful and invasive surgery. Oral medications such as Xiaflex, have shown limited effectiveness in completely dissolving the scar tissue typical of the disease.
However, a remarkable, noninvasive treatment, called extracorporeal shockwave therapy, or ESWT, has been showing great promise in the treatment of Peyronie’s.
ESWT For Peyronie’s Disease
ESWT in and of itself is not new. It has been used in other areas for decades such as for the treatment of kidney stones, and for orthopedic injures and conditions. More recently, effective ESWT protocols have been developed for the treatment of ED, and now those protocols have been modified to provide a specific, and effective shockwave treatment for men with Peyronie’s disease. We call our ESWT treatment the GAINSWave™ for Peyronie’s Disease.
In clinical trials, shockwave therapy has been shown to be an effective alternative treatment to typical surgical interventions for patients with Peyronie’s, such as penile grafts, implants, or suturing techniques, which are far more painful and invasive.
A 2016 study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, entitled, Extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) as a treatment for Peyronie’s disease, concluded, “all patients were able to have intercourse after the treatment” and that “ESWT is effective and safe [for Peyronie’s Disease]. It improves sexual health. It has a positive effect on reducing pain during erection and improves sexual function and the mental state of patients.”
Most interesting and relevant to ESWT and ED, in patients with Peyronie’s and ED, a study found that 60% of the patients treated with shockwave therapy saw improvement in erectile function, and 20% were able to resume sexual intercourse without oral PDE5 inhibitors.
In my own experience, here is what Peter G., a 42 year-old man from Miami Beach, who was one of our first patients treated with the our GAINSWave protocol for Peyronie’s, had to say, “If you told me months ago that I could fix my Peyronie’s disease without drugs or without surgery, I would have said you are nuts! But now, I know better! I am telling you, the GAINSWave works!”
If you are suffering the pain and embarrassment of Peyronie’s disease, and thought your only treatment options were surgery, or less than ideal prescription drugs, think again!
